Caffeine is a stimulant, but it doesn't work that way for everyone. I would suggest a power nap when pulling an all-nighter. Set the alarm for 20 minutes and sleep. This should give you some energy. Make sure you don't sleep more than 30 min or you'll feel more tired.
You could also do some jumping jacks or just walk around a little. If caffeine doesn't work for you, you may want to try the nap or the walk.
One problem with caffeine or sugar is you can crash after it wears off and feel even more tired.

I just finished talking to my fellow family coffeeholic, my sister about this 5 minutes ago. YES caffeine is a mind altering drug. The molecule effects a part of your brain that monitors your alertness. BUT your own body will override that if it needs rest. Listen to your body. Study when you wake up. Something that helps is to say when you're going to stop and tricking your brain to push and push for you to stay awake. You may need more coffee than you think, too. Don't allow it to be too warm, that has a sedative effect.

I don't drink coffee, ever... I tried it once and solidified my not liking it... lol... anyway, from what others have told me, the caffiene in coffee does hype you up a bit. If you are tired, maybe you have low iron or your body is fighting something. take some vitamins (One A Days Women's Formula is good) and see if that helps. Maybe try some iron supplements too. Low iron could wreak havoc on your system.
Good luck!

Caffeine, the stimulant in coffee, is relatively mild. If you are sleep deprived, you are not going to retain anything you're studying anyway. Go sleep, and resume studying when you wake up.

coffee does wake you up because of the caffiene in it. but if you are still sleepy you may want to try some vitamin c in the morning instead of coffee and see if it helps good luck
