I am sorry about your cat. I had a cat run away once and he came back but it was like 2 weeks later. Have you put up signs at the local vet? I wish you luck in finding him.

No, I don't think you should give up hope yet. I live on a highway so there's animals that come and go but I remember this kitten that came. It had the largest cheeks and stayed inside with us for about a month but escaped. About a year later, it came back. Well feed and everything, the cheeks were a sign that it was the same one.

I had a kitten run away from me once. When I found her, she looked just about full grown, fat, lazy, and very happy. She was on the porch of a near neighbor, and I let her stay there. As a kitten, she was the most hyper one I have ever seen, and she kind of drove me crazy even though she was a beautiful, solid black longhair.

Newspaper ad is a good idea.

I would say wait. You never know with cats. That is a long time, though. Did you try all the neighbors?

Check animal control around you and post posters throughout town, maybe run a newspaper ad. Animals are known for their great sense of direction so he may be heading back to you. Did you get a biochip for him? If so that greatly increases your chances of finding him.
