My dogs do that and my vet told me that it is b/c of their anal glands. We switched our dogs to a high fiber food (Science Diet Light) and they stopped for the most part on doing it.
Walking also helps the dogs go more and allows them to "express" the annal glands when they go poo. If this doesn't work, you can give your dog plain pumpkin (not pumpin pie mix with the spices) with fiber formula (metamucil) mixed into it.
Worse comes to worse the vet may need to express her to get the excess stuff out of her glands.

Yep, anal glands... rubbing them across the carpet expresses the oil, then she is going back and doing the sniff and taste test. If she keeps this up or starts to strain at the end of a poop without producing anything, you probably want to take her to a groomer or vet (usually a tech appt.) to have her glands expressed.
also, you might want to bring in a fecal for exam if she has not had one lately - Good luck and Febreeze helps with the smell but not the gross-out factor, lol! -dd

She is self expressing her anal glands or could have worms. If she does this frequently take her to a vet to get checked out. The dog rubbing their butts on the ground frequently is a good indicator their anal glands are impacted or they're itchy from worms but worse is that the dog could cause itself harm by rubbing if it isn't careful what they're rubbing against.

Most likely the anal glands because it has a god awful odor and you are saying she goes back and sniffs and licks the area. My suggestion would be to take her to the groomers or to your Vet and have her anal glands expressed. She'll feel better having that done once in awhile and your house will smell better.
Have them show you how to do it and when you bathe her once a month you can do it to prevent the..occurrence.

Couple things: she could have vaginitis or, the most likely reason is her anal glands are bothering her. I would take her to the vet. Its very common for dogs anal glands to become impacted and infected. She may need regular anal gland expression. Your vet can tell you how often is best for.

Wel Your dog has glands on his buttox and when he gets excited or happy these glands excrete (invisible scent). This is natural and all dogs do it. You cant really do anything about it except for play with your dog outside.. it will still happen though. Its ok though you wont see any stains. Its nothing serious. Just take ur dog twice a year to the vet. if you want a second oppinion look it up online or go to the vet.

Yes, your dog could have some anal gland issues or intestinal parasites. I would contact your vet for an appointment to have the anal glands expressed, if that doesn't help then ask your vet for advice

can be a pair motives. The dogs may have worms giving him an itchy bum or dogs have a small gland one both area of their anus and dragging their in the back of on the carpet motives those glands to excrete a actual fluid. in the journey that your leaving streaks up the hallways then u might want to get a bidet to bathe ur bottom after toileting
