I have always been a cat owner but I have never bought a purebreed cat. I am interested in getting a bengal kitten after recently putting down my other kitten. Does anyone have a bengal and can tell me if they make a good pet? I am looking for a cat breed that will be very social, active and will be ok in an apartment! I don't even know where to start in terms of looking for a reputable breeder either. Any info or suggestions about bengals would help!

I don't personally own a Bengal but I know a fair bit about them.
They are VERY active cats and are VERY playful as kittens. They would make fantastic pets but they can cost a lot ($550+ from a reputable breeder). Even more for a show quality/breeding quality Bengal kitten.
I'm sure any cat would be OK in an apartment as an indoor cat.
They LOVE a lot of company so if you work long hours and will be away for more than 5-6 hours a day, consider getting two kittens (not necessarily two Bengals) so they can keep each other happy.

I couldn't tell you where to GO exactly but looking on www.google.com and looking up 'Registered Bengal breeders in (state/country here)' could get you to a website or an association that has registered breeders on their website.

They should all be wormed, vaccinated, health checked, registered and some come micro-chipped before going to a home.

Never get a kitten under 8 weeks of age as they will not be weaned yet.
They really should be around 11-12 weeks old before going to a home.

I own a bengal cat. She is a WONDERFUL cat. Now that I've owned one, I would never go back to any other breed.
My bengal follows me around like a puppy, always wants to be around me or my husband. She is very friendly and has to meet everyone that comes over. She loves to play, even at 4 years old.
We lived in a one bedroom apartment for the first two years we had her and she did great.
However, because they are very active, I would suggest that you have two cats so they can keep each other company when you aren't home or at night when they are most active. That way your bengal doesn't wake you up at 3 am wanting to play :)
A good website for bengal info is http://www.hdw-inc.com/
There is also a chat board there for you if you need to ask more questions about the breed, but remember the people there are all bengal lovers so they may be a little biased. :)

I, personally, as the proud owner of two cats from the shelter--who would have died if not for our adopting them--cannot understand you who see breeder animals as the best animals. There are so many cats--as well as other animals-- in need out there, and you just need pedigrees. Sorry. If you really think that a Bengal will make you happy, then go for it. I still think you're missing out.

its not usually the breed that makes cats those characteristics. its how you teach them while they are young. if you have people over when they are young and they pet it and stuff it will be more socially active
