my sis touch lamp comes on by itself when nobodys in there. she dont leave in on it just comes on by its own. i will walk by her room and see her lamp on! what is causing this?

Not sure, sounds like it's time to get a different lamp. Or unplug the one she has when not in use and see what happens.

Without knowing what kind I'd guess it was a BAD switch, it may short and cause a fire if you don't have a modern circuit breaker wiring system, so you had better have it checked. My guess is vibration alone or perhaps a loose or worn part springs back internally from either compression or heat. Is it a regular incandesant bulb and is it turned in all the way? Is the fixture loose if you shake it? Is the cord in good shape? Often if the plug or cord is cracked, weathered or brittle it means the wires you can't see are just as bad.

Check the wiring and switch, it may have a 'false contact' (sort of temporaty or non-permanent short or open circuit), meaning, broken wire or contact, in it.
