I've had an ABSOLUTE PASSION for photography for the last few years and have figured out I'd like to be a fashion photographer but schools for that in my area are NIL and I'm in my mid-30's... How do I begin ??? Where do I start ???
Any help would be appreciated !
Thanks !

One of the most difficult photography niches to penetrate is Fashion Photography. As suggested in an earlier answer, work as a Fashion Photographer’s Assistant. Also, take a closer look at the Fashion Photography industry and determine good points for you to enter. For example, at one time, I thought that I wanted to be a Fashion Photographer. I looked closer at the industry and determined that “newer” photographers can introduce themselves to clothing manufacturers and/or importers. Sometimes, they have industry specific shows. These are clothing demonstrated by models in front of industry salespeople – not the buying/gawking public. The manufacturers/importers liked to have photos of these low-keyed shows. Within months, I became known to others in the industry and got higher profile jobs.

I eventually abandoned Fashion Photography (I got tired of the pace). But, I was able to break into the Fashion Photography industry by introducing my self and my availability to small players in the fashion industry. I live in southern California. There are plenty of small fashion business communities that can use the services of photographers.

Find a niche in Fashion Photography. Good luck.

Apprentice with photographers in your city. Call them and tell them you have a strong interest in photography.
