Yeah I did my tongue.
I didn't know anything about nerve damage haha, I ended up going to hospital and having a blood transfusion.
Thank god my tongue worked fine after, except a couple of years ago I got a letter in the mail saying the blood I received could have been infected with Mad Cow's Disease.
But yeah, you should really get a professional to do it, the latter isn't really worth it.

Well, I didn't actually do it myself. A very good friend of mine, who is a nurse, pierced my nose for me. As funny as it sounds, she used a tampon (up the nose) and a sterile needle from work. It worked really well, especially with the kind of needle she used. It had (I don't know the correct terminalogy) a plastic part over it that stayed in the piercing when she pulled the needle out. She then put the jewelry on that and pulled it through. I only had the tiniest bit of bleeding and it didn't hurt at all (I had taken ibuprophen 30 minutes prior).
Beyond that the closest that I've ever done to myself was when I stretched my ears. But, they were already pierced.

Competent piercers go through a lot of training, use precise needles and receiving tubes, etc. to prevent a host of problems and we are not even addressing blood borne pathogen exposure.
Even the jewelry is a problem if not the quality grade needed. Don't take the risk. Seriously.

Yep, Ice and a STERILIZED needle (nose, tounge). I wouldn't suggest doing it. The piercings look great, but BOY it hurt. And the risk of infection is a lot higher.

Honey, don't pierce yourself. some people come out ok, but you should to a good piercer, and let them help you. its safe, sanitary, and should come out satisfactory.

yeah i used to have a friend who did her own belly button, and she totally did it wrong, and it got all infected and she had to get it closed up. It was gross and read and green. Don't do it. It's not worth it.

DON'T DO IT.
Two of my friends did it themselves.
Lets just say, they both had infections and ended up letting it close up anyway.
