I am pretty sure you are seeking the medicinal answer, and so far no one has answered it correctly. Nitroglycerine, when used medicinally, acts as a vasodialator. What this means is that it opens up the blood vessels to allow more blood flow. When a person is experiencing chest pain, such as angina or heart attack, they (if conscious and able) will place a nitro tablet under thier tongue, or use a spray, and let it dissolve. It opens up the vessels and usually helps the pain to go away. In some cases, 3 rounds of tablets are needed.

a medication that is given if a person is having chest pains..it dilates the blood vessels so blood can flow more freely hence carrying more oxygen through the body, and to the heart so the heart is getting the oxygen it needs to stop/control the chest pain..it wont break up clots or stop a heart attack,it helps with the pain..usually is given every 5 minutes times 3 doses and before each dose the persons blood pressure needs to be checked because nitro can and usually does drop the blood pressure..our policy is the blood pressure has to be above 90/50 but that can be different depending on the patient and what their normal bp is
