I went through a lot of trauma as a kid and I also had near total recall. I don't understand how people think a kid will always get repressed memories of events that occur in their lives because the events were traumatic to the child. I remember every sick and painful thing and always have.

Since you weren't specific, I will generalize.

The ages between birth and 5 are the most important in a childs life for impressions that last a lifetime. Having said that, it doesn't discount the years beyond though. It's just that those are seen as the most impressionable.

When some sort of trauma happens in that particular age range, let's say a parent dies, it does have lasting psychological implications. A child could constantly worry the other parent will dies, they may face abandonment issues all of their life, they may grow up "sad" that they missed out on a parent and are reminded daily when they see other kids with two parents.

No matter what the trauma, the human mind and spirit is incredible. It can overcome and heal to a certain extent. It can move on and transcend the sadness. It is not a death sentence.

Most people do well getting counseling to talk about their traumas before they pose problems. However, many people don't and by the time they reach their 30's-50's, they find themselves being forced to face their past.

People take drugs, drink alcohol, spend till they drop, over eat, and have multiple sexual partners trying to escape the nightmares of their past.

Moral of the story. If you plan to be a parent; choose your partner carefully, deal with your issues and plan carefully for a child, don't let it be a 'woops'.

Childhood trauma is very bad because it can cause chronic serious mental health problems for the rest of the person's life.

Children are more resilient than adults give them credit for being. It is very important to believe children when they tell you something, even if it seems incredulous. Keep them talking to you about it, and you will understand what they are saying.

They also understand more than adults think they do. I recommend seeking professional help when children are young.
