After being married for two years, an immigrant can recent their papers. She should've filed for citizenship after the 2 year anniversary. I know this because I am American and I married a hispanic. He was illegal when I met him in New York City. He got married and after two years, he filed and recieved his papers stating he is a legal US Citizen. Hope this helped.

If your friend married a Canadian illegal to the US, he/she (not clear by your question) is a Canadian, not an American.

You say citizen of the US, then you say Canadian. Make up your mind!

Well I am an American and my husband is Egyptian originally but, I think the rules apply to all immigrants equally. My husband had to apply for a work permit to work here. As for your friend, he is allowing his wife to have tax free money and have all the benefits of an American, we have to pay taxes and so should she. If she does work and gets paid "under the table" and the Govt. finds out about it she will get in trouble and so will he. I say deport her lazy butt back to Canada.

they should apply for residency for the illegal immigrant. They qualify because they are married, and with residency they can work, since they have been married more than 2 years.

I think she should watch out. Even though she is Canadian and speaks English, (most likely) the law would be pretty much the same. She can be just as easily deported. Be careful!!!

i think she should be taken back(no offense) but everyone in the world has an equal chane to get in and if they come illegally they are taking things away from us when they do that but if she would have came in through the right way and had a green card things would have been better for everyone.

If they never submitted paperwork to change her status to legal she is still an illegal alien and can be deported.
