There's an old saying, I think, that goes, "Liquor on beer, in the clear. Beer on liquor, never sicker." is this true?

"Liquor before beer, you're in the clear. Beer before liquor, you've never been sicker." Every time I've done beer before liquor i got sick, so for me the saying works

Liqour before beer you stay in the clear
