a cat falls down a 50ft well
every day, he jumps up 3ft and slides down 2ft
at this rate, how many days does it take the cat to get out of the well?

48 days? I started by making a chart and noticed a pattern...I hope this is right! :o)
p.s. I know it wouldn't take 50 days because he has to go 50 feet and wouldn't slide down 2 feet if he was already out...

48 days because the cat only moves a 1ft a day and is at 47 feet on the 48 day and only needs to jump up the 3ft and the cat will be at 50 feet.

48 days. The last three feet that he jumps will be at the top and he can pull himself up from there because if you multiple 6*8 you get 48.

That means he gains one foot a day so it would take him 50 days
if he fell all the way down to the bottom as it does not say it is only an assumption.

it would take 50 days because the cat would progress 1 foot evry day. it's simple subtraction, really. since the cat goes up 3 ft. and down 2 ft. then it'll get 1 ft in progress.

It takes the poor kitty 50 days to scale the well. Since the little guy is able to inch up the well one foot a day, it takes it 50 days.
