My two roomies are Mormon. They believe in Father God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit. They are not a cult. I am a Christian and totally non-denominational. The difference is the Book of Mormons. They also read the Word KJV. They believe, as I do not, that a group of Hebrew left Israel in a boat 400 years before Christ was born to start a colony in North America and this is recorded in the Book of Mormons. They also have the sacrament of the Lord's Supper every week. They also have emersion baptism. They are also dedicated to taking care of all of their members and this is for real. They believe that the 40 days that Jesus was absent after the resurrection was spent in North America with those Hebrew who were here. This is supposed to be the origin of the Book of Mormons.

Mormons are reformist Christians as they have not confined to what did Jesus say in the Bible. Jesus had the need to say that much that was required to that society at that particular stage of history. Now that human problems have multiplied the Mormon exponent has added to what Jesus had said. So long as the Mormons have not rejected Jesus, they continue to be Christians.

many people say that Mormons follow Joseph Smith... um, aside from being the dumbest thing I have ever heard, it is untrue. This 'worshiping Joseph' is truely an American idea. I was born and raised in Australia, now living in New Zealand, and spent 2 years in Japan. No one in Aus/NZ has the idea of us worshiping Joseph. We are Christian, because we follow Christ.
I think this anti-Mormon stuff is all from the 'Bible Belt' of the US.
It is crazy how people make so many assumptions about our church when we do not make assumptions of other churches. People hate us because they do not understand us, and the hatred is just passed down from ignorant parent to ignorant child. Thats all.

I am a Christian. Christianity is the followings of the Lord Jesus Christ the Anointed One. Christianity is truth, you can only be saved through the name of Jesus. Mormonism is a cult with false teachings. They believe in Joseph Smith, and that is their leader. They use the name of Jesus to lure people in and all they talk about is Joseph Smith. They are hooked on Joseph Smith. I am hooked on Jesus. The religions are totally different. Even the commercial about Jesus the Mormons use is a hoax, just to get to visit at people's homes...then they talk about Joseph Smith. Don't be conned.

Mormons ARE Christians. They just believe that priesthood authority on earth was lost and then restored through a prophet called by God in modern times

It depends on your definition of "Christian".

For me, the word "Christian" means "a person who has faith in Jesus Christ". By this definition, we latter-day saints are most certainly Christian. It's reflected directly in the name of the church: The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

However, some people seem to believe that the definition of "Christian" is "people who believe the same thing that I believe". While we share a lot of common beliefs with other denominations, we aren't exactly the same. That's why we are a separate denomination from them, right? We are not ashamed of the fact that we are different from other churches, but we also recognize that we have a lot in common if we have faith in Christ. The president of our church has taught that our attitude towards those of other faiths should be, "What you have is good; let us give you more."

Perhaps those who say we are not Christian also have misunderstandings about our beliefs. This is certainly reflected in the answers to this question.

Yes, they are quite different. Mormons dont believe in the deity of Christ or his blood atonement. Christians believe that Jesus was inherantly special, the son of God, that came and died for our sins and we will be redeemed by him in the end. Mormons believe we are all evolving gods.
