The best thing for a sore throat is to gargle with hot (as hot as you can stand it) salt water. That is what my doctor recommends and believe it or not it works! Other, than that I would suggest green tea.

gargle with warm water(as warm as you can handle comfortably) and cornstarch. You have to mix the cornstarch into a paste with cold water first or it will be lumpy. Then add hot water. Use about one to two teaspoons to one cup water. Continue to gargle and spit till you use up the mixture. Repeat when your throat gets sore again. This may happen often in the beginning but it will heal quickly. Why this works. Your throat is sore because there is a film of mucous that is irritating it. Salt water helps but the cornstarch will bind to the mucous (kind of like making gravy the cornstarch binds with the fat) and you can spit it out with the solution thus enabling faster heal time.

You can try the lemon and honey as suggested with soluble paracetamol or aspirin.... But I prefer that or soluable asipirin or paracetamol in cold water and gargle with that, it'll coat the back of your throat and help towards the infection in the throat when swallowed....
Ice cream would also help sooth your throat.... Orange juice might be a little acidic for your throat and that's probably why it feels sore... Everyone is different so it's all dependent on what really helps you.... Where one piece of advice might help some it might not help all.... All you can do is but try....
Get well soon

It's different for each person, but I suggest, firstly, if you like Tea, try tea with lots of honey (instead of sugar), the honey soothes your throat, yet it tastes better than just hot water with honey, though if you prefer, you can have just hot water and honey (try a bit of lemon for more taste).
Otherwsie, I know people who swear that lemonade not only helps a sore stomach, but it helps your throat too!

Honey/lemon's good. Othwerwise if you can get to to your chemist, a antiseptic gargle is great (like betadine). If you use a lozenger, get ones that are antiinflamatory and antibacterial (and anesthetic if it's painful). Some of the over the counter lozengers are about as effective as lollies, so choose wisely!

I find that warm milk (or tea) with honey works pretty well. I don't like using lozenges 'cause for me it only works while I'm sucking on it.
