she doesn't really like them. but she hates the snow too. we just moved from georgia where it is fairly nice weather year round. i know when i do have her in her shoes she seems to want to play in the snow but when i don't have her shoes on she is ready to go inside with a quickness. i have seen people walk their dogs in the snow with no shoes so i wanted to know if you think a dogs feet feel severe cold or heat? i know i wouldn't walk in the snow with no shoes on and i don't want my dog to either.

she is a 7 year old Pit Bull. and the reason why i ask this is because if i dont have to make her wear them i wont but if she is feeling pain from the cold i will make her. kinda like making your child wear a coat and hat in the winter. get it?

Dogs DEFINITELY feel cold and heat on their paws. If she's only outside for a short period of time, just let her go shoeless, however, if you think it will be for a while..make her wear her booties. It's for her own good.

I lived in Connecticut for 3 years, and I was worried about that too. My dog never wore shoes, and he was fine (I even asked my vet about it). We'd walk for several miles at a time, and he would get so excited when it would snow, so I don't think he minded much. :)

I'd check with your vet b/c it might depend on the breed of the dog or exactly where you live. Certain dogs seem to be more sensitive than others--a chihuaua might not fare as well in the snow as a siberian husky. I have a west highland terrier, and they are known for being pretty sturdy little dogs, and he has a pretty thick coat (although, that doesn't really affect his paws).

If you're still worried about your pooch's paws and don't want to buy the shoes, I think you can buy doggy creams/lotions to ensure that the pads of their feet are moisturized and safe from cracking.

Dogs like snow Dogs love to play in the snow. Dogs hate salt that we put on the roads and sidewalks. the salt hurts the dogs paws. try to avoid taking your dog to a place were salt has been used. if you do end up in a place with salt then just walk over to some spot where there is clean snow and let her walk in that she will get the salt off herself.
the dog does not need or want shoes. the only reason a sane person would put shoes on the dog is because they can not avoid the salted area's at all .
the dog can indure a walk across the road with salt and slush as long as you do what i wrote and take her to some clean snow right after so she can get the salt off.
you will know when your dog has been out long enough or too long by looking at the paws if snow is frozzen in between the nails and the dog is try to chew that snow off its time to go home.
if it gets like that just take off your glove and hold the dogs paw until the snow melts .
please let your dog be a dog and not some silly holliwood hand bag to carry around . dogs like to get dirty. like to swim . get covered in the most awfull smelling things they can find play in the snow run and play with other dogs . play fight with other dogs. dogs need and want to at least pretend to hunt rabbits and other animails please let them do that. not catch and eat a rabbit or squirl but if you see one near by on a fence top where the dog could not get at the little guy then let your dog go run after the squirl . this is what a dogs life is about. one more thing because you have a pit bull that is a dog which is illegal in ontario where i live due to the numbers of attacks they have done. . you need to put a choke collar on the dog. and teach the dog basic commands like heal sit and so on . a choke collar does not choke a dog!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! a choke collar is a collar that you must put on correctly and use correctly short very short fast pulls on the leash along with no or what ever command you are attempting to teach . a choke collar is not repeat is not suppose to look like some scarry thing with sharp points coming off of it .
if you can not be 100% positive at all times that you can control your dog on the leash then you have to work at that until you are sure. sorry to go on about pit bulls and training but i have seen so many punks get one for the look of it and they dont train the dog and they can not control the dog as a result they are now illegal in ontario.

She'll be fine for short periods of time without shoes. My dogs never would wear them. If there's salt on the streets, you might need to wipe her feet when she gets in the house so they don't get irritated. Obviously, bigger dogs can stay outside in the cold longer than little dogs. For instance, our lab loves being outside in 30 degree weather, but my chihuahuas can't stay out for more than a minute or two.

she's probably just not used to it yet. We live in Fl and spend the hot months there but come up to the north during the winter holidays for a couple of months. If she can tolerate the heat she'll probably get used to the cold too. Try to take her out and play for short periouds. (distracts her from this new sensation and she'll have a blast) my dog loves catching snowballs, hillarious to watch him try and find the missing ball by running his nose thru the snow. course dog booties are cute ... we love to torture our pets with "outfits"

If your dog is use to th cold and there is NO SALT on the road of pavmnt then its ok as long as the dog dosen't object.

To get her used to the boots, I recomend walking her inside a bit with the shoes on.

Oh. My. Goodness.
DOGS ARE WILD ANIMALS! THEY DO NOT WEAR SHOES IN THE SNOW!

A DOG IS NOT A CHILD OR A BABY! THEY ARE ANIMALS! WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME YOU SAW A WOLF IN THE WILD WEARING A PAIR OF BLOODY SHOES???????

A human foot is much more sensitive than a dog foot. They have things called "PADS" on their feet with thick skin to protect them! They could walk over GLASS and they could get away with nothing but a scratch!

Sure, you may think DOGS (ONCE WILD ANIMALS) need SHOES (used to protect HUMAN feet), but they DON'T!

You want to dress something up, go and buy a doll.

What are you conversing approximately? What dogs? Are you conversing some stray dogs? if so, you may take the dogs to the vet's, or community shield/rescue/pound, and have the dogs checked for a microchip. you additionally can call Animal administration and have the dogs picked up. Why do you may go browsing to ascertain some thing so uncomplicated?

if she's a smaller dog, the shoes are a good idea. if she's anything bigger than around thirty pounds they are only needed if she is outside ( and running, like husky's ) for hours on end. dogs have those thick little pads on their paws and though they do feel the cold their bodies regulate much better than ours.

YES dogs feet are sensitive to heat and cold just like us. Imagine yourself walking in those conditions without protection.
