my ex boyfriend passed away this passed week. his so called exgirlfriend was on her way. from Guntersville to Huntsville Al a 50 mile drive. When they arrived at Huntsville Hospital it took 15 minutes to get a heart beat. She never stopped to help him in anyway.
She said she didn't know when he stopped breathing.

Question is: How long does the brain have to go without oxygen for him to have died from both sides being brain dead? A very need to know question here someon please help me.....

after 5 minutes or so the brain cells start to die. the situation you described sounds complicated because it's not clear whether he didn't get enough oxygen because he stopped breathing or if he wasn't perfusing his brain. remember that you need adequate blood flow to transport the oxygen. if he didn't have a pulse, it's possible he was breathing adequately but wasn't delivering the oxygenated blood to the brain.
