I am currently on medication for depression and anxiety. My fingers are ugly, and I try to hide them. This started after my divorce 5 years ago. If too much is going on in my life, it's even worse. Any suggestions?

I started doing this after my mom and dad divorced when I was 5 *27 now* and I have tried over and over to get help to quit and now it is something I do and don't even know I am I hate bath time or swimming anywhere that i will be around water b/c I know that it will show on my fingers and once I had to be finger printed and that was the worst of all ... I felt so depressed about it and whats funny is I done it worse b/c I was depressed about doing.. if you do get a *cure* pass it on

I have been doing this for years. I will pull the skin around my nails, then start chewing on them, I am manic-depressive and on meds. but have had this problem since I was a kid. I have never even heard of anybody else doing this, so I was surprised to see your question.I got band-aids on my fingers as I type this. I don't always do it though, mostly when I am stressed out. I will have periods of time where I can actually paint my fingernails! My Psychiatrist says it is pretty common, a form of OCD, and nerves. E-mail me if you want to talk. Msmaryanne3@yahoo.com
