I'm sure they have. It would be to make them pest-resistant and give higher yields.

I think oranges were crossed with other oranges that didn't have a lot of seeds to produce the naval oranges. The only thing I read was they were taking the bitterness out of some oranges:

I dont know because I am allergic to oranges!
