To Casey,

No, I put them in many young patients and and my impression is the removable palatal expanders (commonly known as the Schwartz appliances) are more comfortable than the fixed types such as the rapid palatal expanders (RPE) or the "W'-lateral expanders. The drawback for this appliance is it may take sometimes for you to learn how to talk with it in the mouth.

To: Dr. ALbert,

WOW, I hope I have not violated any rule here. To be honest, I've never read them. I believe as long as you are posting here with good intention and you will be fine. Please correct me if I am doing something wrong, right away.

To you both,

Best Wishes and Happy Holidays

CASEY,
PLEASE READ THE RULES FOR POSTING AND DO NOT POST THE SAME QUESTION TWICE!
(NEW - Added 8/3/06) Posts that are adversarial, antagonizing or promote dissention will be removed. Users violating this three times will be permanently banned.
Language that would be inappropriate in the polite company of strangers is quite unwelcome here.
All Topics and Posts needs to be related to RVs somehow.
No spamming, fundraising, trolling, flaming or other personal attacks, be they acrimonious or veiled in humor. If you take issue with a Member's position, by all means speak your mind. If you have a problem with a Member's religion, creed, national origin, sex, politics, associations or personal hygiene, take it to e-mail.
As we (the moderators) can never convey a philosophy through a few rules, we reserve the right, in our sole discretion, to edit or delete posts and/or to revoke Membership. NOTE: If you have created an auto-signature with at least your first/last name, city, RV model, etc you will probably receive one warning, as we know who we are dealing with. If you have no auto-signature you can be removed and banned by email and/or IP address without consultation for a 'first offense'.
Before posting, check the archives to see if your question/comment has already been discussed at length. It might have been.
When posting, don't write a novel. Try to keep your posts to the point and helpful. Strive to 'add value to the communal RV knowledge base'. We are engaged in the hobby of building and flying airplanes, not writing an updated 'War and Peace'.

Posting guidelines and examples of acceptable posts
Many of us learn in school about "free speech" and "freedom of expression", a concept stemming from the first amendment to the United States Constitution. Unfortunately, most people have never read the first amendment and fewer still understand how it applies to our rights. In a nutshell, the first amendment prohibits the US government from passing laws restricting our right to free speech. It does not restrict an organization or business from enacting and enforcing standards.

We believe in freedom of expression, the first amendment, and all that. However we are not providing the forum for that freedom. We have rules and they must be honored. If you can not accept it, please do not register.

VAF Forums is a community of Van's RV owners and enthusiasts. We have always had standards in the forum and we have a strong belief in the ability of forum members to "self-regulate" - to stay within the bounds of those standards. Due to a limited number of volunteer staffing, we are sometimes lax in enforcing them. Still, we have a strong commitment to providing an environment that we consider professional and "family friendly" and we insist on adherence to our principles.
Moderators have a free reign here. If they don't like it, it's toast.
All posts must be civil, friendly, and not contain any profanity or references to profanity.
All posts must have some point to them and some value.
This is not a soapbox. You can't say whatever you like.
Silly, pointless topics will be deleted.
Repeat offenders will be banned.
This is a family forum - like it or not.
No cross posting.
It is not an easy task to define where "the line" that shouldn't be crossed lies. However we'll do our best to provide an example. Consider the following types of discussions and topics:

1 RV repair-related questions and answers.
2 Discussion on upgrading a RV for better performance.
3 Relative value of normal aspirated vs. fuel injection.
4 Request for help regarding construction.
5 Tools / Fly-out destinations / Flying technique

-------------------------------- T H E L I N E ----------------------------------

6 Posts about pets, music, beverages, software, and quite a few other topics where RVs aren't the primary subject.
7 Topics which, when opened, contain nothing after the sentence "Ha ha, made you look."
8 Posts criticizing moderating decisions or forum policies.
9 Highly divisive, controversial issues such as religion, gun control, politics, etc. There are more appropriate forums on the Net for this.
10 Discussions about human or other mammalian anatomy and bodily functions.
11 Posts with the sole goal of inciting flame wars, such as "Don't you think owners of XYZ are jerks?"
12 Posts containing explicit (even if thinly veiled) profanity and/or pornography
13 Topics about activities which would result in incarceration.

From the list above, it would probably be agreed by anyone that items 1 through 5 are totally acceptable. It would also probably be agreed by most reasonable people that items 12 and 13 are not. What about items 6 through 11? This is the "gray zone" - the area where different people have different levels of tolerance.

For VAF Forums, we consider items 1 through 5 to be acceptable. Items 6 through 13 are considered off limits.

Unfortunately, determining which side of "the line" a given post falls is not always so simple. Forum moderators have the difficult task of making that judgment call. Hopefully they'll make the decision that is considered "correct" by 95% of the community. Posts complaining about and/or criticizing moderators will be deleted.
