I think what you're asking about is a Sno Ball and it is Hostess that makes them. These are ball shaped (ha, duh.) and are cake on the inside covered with a marshmallow coating that is topped with coconut shavings. Click on the link and see if that looks right. Hope this helps.

Hostess Snowballs had chocolate cake and a filling covered in white or pink frosting and coconut. I think they still make them but its like at convenience stores I haven't seen them in regular grocrey stores in eons.
