Its not by state, just town or city, and each one has different breeds that they feel are dangerous (idiots). So, depending on what breed yours is ("pitbull" is a shorthaired, medium sized dog with a stocky build), it may or may not be banned, most places with bans don't ban Boxers or Labs, so just say it is a Boxer/Lab mix if confronted :-)

Do not go thru Denver. My neighbor was coming here and went thru Denver with his pit bull. He had car trouble and a cop stopped to see if he could help saw the leashed pit bull in the back seat and took his gun out and shoot it. Never gave any warning. The judge ruled the policeman was in his right to kill the pit because it was ban there. He now as a new puppy. My dog studded a litter and I gave the one I was going to keep.

it is the city ordinances that say whether or not pits are allowed. if they are not you may want to find out about having the ordinance changed. it used to be illegal to have them where i live but a few years ago with the help of our new city police marshall and our town dog catcher we were able to have it chaged. it had once stated that no dogs belonging to the breeds of pit bull terriers, rottweilers, and a couple of other breeds couldn't reside in town. now it states that you are not able to own any vicous dog in town. we are required to register dogs at the city hall and show proof of rabies vaccination.

Don't know about states but I know a couple of cities who have a ban. Why don't you call the humane societies of the particular cities you will frequent?

Will you be staying in hotels?

I am a dog lover but am afraid of pit bulls. :(

I know of several instances where they have attacked children a couple of the kids died as a result.

I'm not sure, but related, when I went to get house insurance. Question one, do you have a dog(s). What is the breed?
The agent said they would not insure us if we owned a pit bull.

i love dogs and have had them all of my life. banning them i think is good because they can easily be out of control without proper socialization. they usually ban them in the city or county. some people think pits are a custom, great dogs whatever. . .let your city-county take care of it.

They are banned by city, not by state. But I do know that they are banned in Denver, CO and Kansas City, MO.
