In order to receive a private pilot's license, according to FAR 61.103(a), you must be at least 17 years old for a rating in other than a glider or balloon. Part (b) says that one could be 16 for a glider or balloon.
The same age limitation is applicable for a recreational pilot.

In the US you can start to take flying lessons at any age, although you can't get solo an aircraft until you are 16 and you can not get your license until you are 17. You will find that most kids don't start until they are 15 years old.
Good luck!

The first person who answered doesn't know what she is talking about. Like they said, you have to be 16 to solo, and then you can take your private pilot's ltest at 17. You can start flying with an instructor as soon as you are tall enough to reach to the rudder pedals. In my case, I was 12 y.o.

You can solo at 16, and receive your license at 17. Starting lessons at age 16 would allow you to solo and be ready for your checkride on your 17th birthday.

Its better when you are 16, bcuz, you dont have many restrictions....and its from early age but cannot fly solo until 16. And also FAA requirement that you are fluent in reading, writing, and understand English language.
And best thing I say, " Have some common sense...LOL"

You can start flying at like 14.
I think you have to be 16.
Some kid from compton has a license and he's 14.
Its not like driving, you can be younger.
