God promised Abraham that he would be the father of a great nation and they would be his people. God's promise was fulfilled in Isaac, not Ishmael. Sarah and Abraham thought they could help God along, but they were wrong. Ishmael is the father of Islam and Isaac is the chosen son of Abraham who was the father of Isreal (Jews). The Jews were "God's people". They worshiped the "God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob", not Allah. The name Jew came from the race of people generations after Abraham, but the faith associated therein was based on the God of Abraham. Therefore we technically have reason to believe that Abraham considered anything a "religion". This was pure fact to him. He spoke with God, just like Moses (A Jew). Christians are the extended faith in Christ past the Old Testament account of the faith. The faith of a Jew only differs in their view of Christ, which was prophecied to Abraham, Moses, and the prophets of the Old Testament hundreds of years before Christ came to Earth in exactly the same manner as was dipicted by these prophets. Over 2000 Prophesies of the coming of Christ were fulfilled in Jesus. That's good enough for me.
Have you ever counted how many prophecies are fulfilled in the Qur'an? Let me fill you in, not many. Not to be offensive, but it seems to me if Satan were to make a deviation from faith in God in order to steer people away from salvation, the Qur'an fits perfect. It is very misleading and can be convincing...that is until you look at facts. Satan does not know the future, God does. It stands to reason that if we had to pick between the Qur'an and the Bible, we should look at which one has been proven true more than the other. Allah of Qur'an does not mean God of the Bible. The Bible has thousands of prophecies fulfilled and teh Qur'an has a handful that could have been guessed at the time based on probability.
Do yourself a favor, research this. If you are wrong and I am right, you have a lot to gain. I have done the same. Satan does a good job to decieve men, but I am no fool. Factual evidence for faith makes sense to me.
God Bless.

Abraham lived 400 years before Moses, so he certainly didn't follow the Jewish religion; it wouldn't be established for another four centuries. Moses received the Ten Commandments, the sacrificial law, and the Arc of the Covenant four centuries after Abraham. The Passover and the Exodus out of Egypt occurred in the time of Moses, four centuries after Abraham.
Now what would there be to the Jewish religion with the story of the Exodus, Passover, the Ten Commandments, the sacrificial law, and the Ark of the Covenant?

Poor decieved Muslim. There were no Muslims for another 2000 years...During the time of Abraham as you say there was only Gods people and Abraham was the father of the Jews had there not been Jews and Christian you would not even know the name Abraham Muslims clearly do not understand the teachings that God revealed to Abraham. It was Abraham who knew Christ. It was Abraham who named the mountain where Jesus was to crucified Jehovah Jirah the lord will provide because it is where the lord will provide himself a lamb and that lamb was Jesus Christ.

Abraham had NO RELIGION to speak of. He was a "friend of God..."
...And let us not MISLEAD OTHERS HERE, shall we? I don't think that NEITHER should you infer that Abraham was Muslim at all SIMPLY BECAUSE he was not a Jew or a Christian! That's really POOR LOGIC on your part, too.
After all it was Abraham who BORE Ishmael to become the progenitor of the twelve Ishmaelite princes or tribes, right??
And as we are all well aware, Islam/Mohammedanism was only founded 500 years AFTER Yeshua Messiah/ Jesus the Christ [PBUH] walked on the Earth.
Get the point??
Peace be with you.

Abraham was a monotheist.
He is the father of Islam, Judaism, and Christianity.
In order to gather together scattered humanity God calls Abram from his country, his kindred and his father's house, and makes him Abraham, that is, "the father of a multitude of nations". (Gen 12:1)
"In you all the nations of the earth shall be blessed." (Gen 17:5; 12:3; cf. Gal 3:8)
The Catechism of the Catholic Church states, "The plan of salvation also includes those who acknowledge the Creator, in the first place amongst whom are the Muslims; these profess to hold the faith of Abraham, and together with us they adore the one, merciful God, mankind's judge on the last day."
"It is my ardent hope that Muslim and Christian religious leaders and teachers will present our two great religious communities as communities in respectful dialog, never more as communities in conflict."
-- Pope John Paul II, Meeting with Muslim Leaders in Omayyad Great Mosque, Damascus, May 6, 2001.
With love in Christ.

I don't think he was Muslim(is that what you're saying he was, because I can't really tell). Wasn't the Muslim religion started by the descendants of Abraham's first son Ishmael?
But obviously he wasn't Jewish because the rules for Judaism were laid down by Moses in the Mosaic Law. And they were Abraham's descendants. And of course he wasn't Christian(I'm going to laugh if someone actually puts that), because Christianity was spread by Jesus' disciples after his death. So, I don't know.
I guess like you said, we'll never really know what Abraham was, but we do know that he is the father of Judaism, Christianity, and Islam.

Sorry to brake it to you bud, he sure wasn't muslum. Your right he isn't a Jew. say that the Torah and Gospel were not written till after him so did the Quran prophescy about Abraham? The Torah or first five books were written by Moses who was a Levite Which way before the Quran was even revealed to your prophet.
I would say Abraham was a Christian Hebrew. A follower of God the Almighty Father, Creator of all things, Diffinetly not allah.
Don't worry I know were the Islamic Nations come from. They are from Abraham.
Ge 16:8 And he said, Hagar, Sarai's maid, whence camest thou? and whither wilt thou go? And she said, I flee from the face of my mistress Sarai.
Ge 16:9 And the angel of the LORD said unto her, Return to thy mistress, and submit thyself under her hands.
Ge 16:10 And the angel of the LORD said unto her, I will multiply thy seed exceedingly, that it shall not be numbered for multitude.
Ge 16:11And the angel of the LORD said unto her, Behold, thou art with child, and shalt bear a son, and shalt call his name Ishmael; because the LORD hath heard thy affliction.
Ge 16:12 And he will be a wild man; his hand will be against every man, and every man's hand against him; and he shall dwell in the presence of all his brethren.
Sonuds like the muslim nation to me. Expescilly that last verse.
Just because Ishmael wasn't the one God choose as his people dosen't mean God isn't going to keep his promises. Hope this helps.

Is that from the Qur'an?
Abram was from 'ur-kasdim, or ur of Chaldees. His ancestry was Semitic, a descendent of Shem. His father Terah, followed the idol worship religion of his country.
To say that he was a Muslim is very strange. Muhammed is said to be the revealer of Islam, and he lived around 600 AD......whereas Abram left Ur thousands of years BEFORE there was this revelation and the writing of the Qur'an.

That's a good question. He was not Jewish there were no Jews in Abraham's time. His great grandson was leader of the Jewish tribe which was one of the twelve tribes of Israel. There were no Israelis in Abraham's time. It was his grandson who was given the name Israel. The name the nation was later given. He had the same God as Israel had of course. I could only say his was the religion of the one true God. xx

What faith was Abraham?
Hebrews 11:17 By faith Abraham, when he was tested, offered up Isaac; and he who had received the promises was offering up his only begotten son; it was he to whom it was said "In Isaac your descendants shall be called." He considered that God is able to raise men even from the dead; from which he also received him back as a type.
Abraham believed in the resurrection from the Dead. It is God who provided His Only Begotten Son.
Also, in the Old Testament Abrahams God is the Yahweh Elohim (Lord God). Jesus is the promised Messiah who was brought forth from Israel. Jesus is the Savior of us all, in that He defeated death by raising from the dead. Jesus is the Resurrection. People from all nations are born of God through faith in Jesus Christ, and inherit eternal life and every spiritual blessing.
Ibrahim wasn't a Muslim. Muslims weren't around then. Neither was Hagar or Ishmael.
