Everyone if they live long enough, are going to be placed in this very situation.

A person who is trustworthy and truthful is going to do his level best to remain that way, but there will come a time when he or she is placed in this situation where they have to either one, lie like dog, or in some cases, be silent.

It is indeed a moral dilemma, and I have been in that situation before, was very unhappy being put into that position, but I did what I had to do, and it all worked out.

Whether you decide to lie or not is a personal choice, which only you can decide.

Good luck!!!

HEY 'I' READ THIS... unfortunately honesty is not an exact science and we need wisdom to make the right choices and it is soooo difficult to have a network to trust. often the people we trust the most are clueless and can serve to misguide us... but here is a GEM of WISDOM....

Honesty without kindness is not honesty at all!

If I always have a master plan/goal of being kind and not hurting others my choices will be the right ones!

As far as what is or is not a sin I leave that to the religious idiots... I am busy with life and havent the time for their crap.

Think! How many lies will pass from earth to heaven? would you want to have any in your consciousness? When does evil become good at times?
Honest people do not lie, but may not reveal the whole truth to protect people.

"Speak truth each one to his neighbor" so says Ephians 4:25.
However, this does not mean that you are under obligation to give full information to those who may want to bring harm to another.
The patriarchs Abraham and Isaac withheld facts from some who did not worship God.(Genesis 12:10-19; 20:1-18; 26:1-10)
Rahab of Jericho misdirected the king’s men. (Joshua 2:1-7)
Jesus Christ himself refrained from divulging total information when doing so would have caused needless harm. (John 7:1-10) He said: “Do not give what is holy to dogs, neither throw your pearls before swine.” Why not? So that “they may never . . . turn around and rip you open.”—Matthew 7:6.

Yes, I believe that when with a lie you can help someone and nobody gets hurt, it is the thing to do. It should be an exception, though.

Sorry there is no justifiable sin. We have all sinned and fallen short of the glory of God it is the reason why Christ died for us.Now we are not under the law but the man of sin is to be considered dead. That does not mean that we are perfect as we are yet in our sinful bodies in the sinful world. But we can not give ourselves over to sin.

Well this is a hard question to answer since there are many examples that it can be good, and many that it can be bad.
Good-people lying to Hitler about hiding Jews or not.
Bad- Telling someone off who did not do something wrong.

Although lieing is bad, its bearing false witness God understands we do the best we can in a bad situation, for example in the old USSR when someone hid a jew and told someone they were not there, it was a lie but He understands that we make the best judgement in the situation we have, He judges the motive in every situation, hay free bible lessons learn more www.itiswritten.com email me also wgr88@yahoo.com

There is no such thing as a white lie. The Bible says "he person faithful in what is least is faithful also in much, and the person unrighteous in what is least is unrighteous also in much." Luke 16:10 Therefore, a lie is a lie and not accepted by God.

Lying is a part of life, everyone lies some point in there life and some have to, its idiotic that the bible quotes it saying its wrong. Say for example you and your family were held up by an extremist group who only kills citizens from hutu decent but you lied saying you were tutsi thus saving yourself from death.
