Go to any 7-11 and buy a calling card. Ideally - you need to locate a payphone you plan to use - and buy the card to match it. THe most common is the LEKSO card (or a name like that). Then you need to find a payphone that says LEKSO on it. The calling cards you buy - must match the payphone you are using. You can use coins on many payphones - and dial '001' + 65 (for singapore) + number - and the coin phones will tell you what you need to insert (so have lots of 10 baht coins handy).

Please leh, Bangkok's public toilets are so much worse than Singapore. Bangkok, you can only go to toilets in high-end shopping centres, the rest are really bad, no paper, bad smell, dirty. I once paid money and walked into a public toilet. I was like, OMG!!! I walked out and braved the walk to the shopping centre. No choice lor. Then in Singapore I also choose carefully one, crowded places, old places sure bad. You must go to places that look new and nice, not too crowded etc.

First of all, find a public phone. Insert your calling card or credit card. Lift the reciever. Dial the international access code, then country code, area code and the phone number.
Good luck!
