I love the photo tattoos. Get a baby picture of him photographed or a heart with blue ribbons and perhaps a rattle inside of the heart and ribbons.
I am getting a tattoo with my boys name inside each ribbon wrapped around the heart on the back of my shoulder.

I love that idea. My friend in fact had a tattooo in honor of her son Connor just a few months ago. I will suggest to you the same thing she did. Instead of tattooing Connor's name she go a picture of him as a baby on her back. Find a tatto artist that can do "realism" It looks so real it's the most beautiful tattoo I've ever seen. I hope your tattoo looks great, and I hope you like my idea!
Good Luck

I am Maori, and in our culture, tattoos tell something about us. Where we come from genealogy, who we are. It tells a story about the person, in a way that only the person or someone close to them would understand. It may have a hidden message describing the person, honoring the tribe, or family.
Look at yourself and try and find what you want. I have a young son too and yes like you I have sought to try and find one too compliment him.
I wish you luck, I don't think that a simple name on your arm would do, what is your culture are you Celtic. Go from there.

try watching some tattoo based programes, like Miami ink or L.A ink. They always show good ideas of things and ways of making simple pictures more interesting, Or even go ask a tattoo artist, they know best after all!

There's alot of things you could get that's nice. Like his name on your arm. Or his name in some kind of Chinese letters. Some of the Chinese letters look nice. A picture of him on your arm. You name and his name in a heart or something. Your best bet is to go to a tattoo place and look at what kind of things they have there. They will help you and give you some good ideas. Good luck.

Honor him by doing something other than decorating your body. Write him a heartfelt letter now and save it for his 21st b'day, or wedding day, or for when he becomes a Dad.
Honor him by starting a collection of items from the year he was born-coins, books, toys, magazines, CDs, DVDs, dated items.
Honor him by keeping detail scrape books of his life, school years, sports, etc. Honor him by taking that tat money and opening a bank account. Honor him by doing something FOR him.

Your little boys foot prints and or handprints are always a good idea. Adding a banner with his name and date of birth is a nice touch.

Go to a REALLY GOOD tattoo ARTIST with your favorite picture of him, and have that tattooed on your arm. Maybe with his birth date below it.

Try getting a portrait tattoo of your son. I have one of my two sons on each of my shoulder blades. But make sure you do your homework on who does portrait tattoos. You want to make sure they are extremely experienced in doing those. You will be happy!
