Although most people believe in a first cause, they do not necessarily believe in a god. Some people believe that science has the answers. Somewhere around 15 to 17% do not believe in a god. The rest claim to. There is no absolute proof of a god. And while historians agree that a man called Jesus probably existed, there is no proof of his divinity. Many ancient myths that were once taken as religion also contain a creation myth by a god of some name as well as virgin births and the idea of the trinity. Hence, some people see the Bible as another myth. Although there are scientists who believe in God, many don't. From a scientist's perspective, many ideas and occurrences in the Bible are not seen as being scientifically possible. I am not trying to be disrespectful. I am just answering your question.

I dont know why other people dont believe in god but I know I dont because I think the bible was written by man to control other people. I believe that if there truly is a god he would not be happy with the things organized religion has said and done in his name. Also I really dont think it makes sense that someone would burn in eternal flames for having sex.... its just ridiculous. I personally disagree with the principles and practices of organized religions I am often disturbed by the unquestioning obedient following nature of most people raised religious and I feel that preaching the words from a book written by a patriarcal society is a form of brainwashing. I dont know if there is or is not a omnipotent being but I do know there is no evidence whatsoever supporting the written account of this beings creation of the world and everything contained in the bible/s. I think it is possible there may be a god but I cannot be shown proof of that and I dont believe what cannot be proven. Until the day science proves beyond a shadow of a doubt that god exists I will not believe and even then, if god is real and says we should follow the whatever religion is the "right" one I will choose not to be part of it even though god is real I would rather burn in hell for refusal to worship than go to a place that forgives the atrocities done in its name by its followers. I will never be associated with an organization that burned women alive for washing the insides of thier pockets.... which apparently made them a witch. I will never be associated with any inquisition, the crusades, or religious wars or all the horrible persecutions and deaths caused and initiated by religions. Thats the way I look at it anyway, and if god really is the way he is described I doubt he'd want anything to do with organized religion either....

I don't believe in fairy tales that were written 2000 years ago. The Bible wasn't written until 40 years after the supposed death of Jesus. Lots rumors and mistold stories can occur in 40 years.
Why do you not believe in Allah or the Greek Gods? I contend we are all atheists to all other religions, I just take it one step further.
There is no proof that he ever existed. If take someone's word for everything you are ever told, you will be betrayed thousands of times. This is just one of them.
I you believe in God, then I contend that you have never read the entire Bible. Because if you had, you would realize how repulsive it is. The Bible is sexist, racist, and homophobic. If you want to follow a religion that hates, then be my guest

God is just a man made concept. It is, if nothing else, just an idea.
All the theologies ever imagined-no matter how beautiful, powerful, or complex-are only descriptions. They are not the reality itself.
In other words, ideas about God are not God.
Furthermore, people may not even be having the same experienced of the Divine. Perhaps we experience a different part, or portion of the Divine, the part that speaks most deeply and personally to us alone.
So it's not that I don't believe in "God All Mighty" I simply have my own view point and experiences of Deity.

I personally do believe in God, but I have a lot of friends that just want some solid proof that such a person exists. It's hard to believe in some benevolent being when there is so much hunger, anger, and pain in the world. It really shakes people's faith and some people just can't hold their ground in the face of such adversity. It's not necessarily to say that they're bad, because they still are good people, it's just a matter of faith, or lack there of.

Lack of evidence. Noted Catholic theologian Hans Kung, in a huge book entitled "Does God Exist?", examined the question in excruciating detail, and concluded that the existence or non-existence of god could not be shown by logic or evidence. I agree. It follows from this that the concept of god is useless: it cannot lead to a prediction of anything. Other references cited are worthwhile.

Because if we tried to believe in God, and tried to see Him, we wouldn't be able to grasp it. If God truly existed, and we saw Him or heard Him, He would be too great for our minds to handle. We'd go insane.
And if you clear out the comments about how humanity is already insane, you'll see that we really aren't. We'd be killing each other for food if we were, and the mind of a madman doesn't usually try to grasp the concept of life, the universe and everything.

I imagine that there many reasons, and I won't claim to know them all. Here are some:
* They don't see proveable evidence for the exitence of God
* They are of another religion (not Jewish, Christian, or Muslim)
* They think the entire question is irrelevant

Because some people need evidence and proof for what they are willing to believe (whereas such evidence is presented to believers in the form of 'Faith' and God's presence that is within all His creation - Love). They believe what they can taste, touch, see and feel... and anything else is irrelevant. God gave humans the freedom of will to choose what they will and will not do, as well as what they will and will not believe. He does not force humans to love Him, nor to look upon His face.

i call myself an aetheist, but in reality i'm more of intellegent design. i believe that a god created the speck that led to the big bang and the laws the universe must follow, but had no further effect on anything. he just wanted to see what would happen. now i don't believe in the god of the bible, because i see too many contradictions in the bible and the entire christian belief. and all other religions just seem so...prehistoric to me. so i believe in evolution. and i believe in intellegent design because no matter what, we will never come up with a true big bang theory, because scientists define the big bang as the begining of the universe. now if you believe in god, good for you. you do your thing and i'll do mine. thank you for not attempting to shove your religion down my throat like most christians do.
