it could be an allergy, my mum had bad headaches and it turned out she was allergic to white bread and pasta. fresh air can help, and a little exercise like a walk. also, low blood sugar can cause headaches, so make sure to eat regularly, but not too much, and drink lots of water. hope she feels better, headaches are no fun

1. When is the last time you had a headache? Couple of years (regular one) 2. What did you take for your headache? Advil 3. When is the last time you had a hangover headache? About a week ago 4. What worked for this headache? Time 5. What doesn't work at all for your headaches? Banging my head against a wall 6. Do you get dull headaches or throbbing headaches? I usually do not ever get headaches. When I do (regular ones) they are usually dull. A hot bath or real good massage works wonders. A chiropractor may help too to get you back in working order!

Take her to see a chiropractor... if she has any sort of mis-alignment in her spine, then it's going to cause problems in areas of her body. Seriously, regardless of what doctors may tell you about them.. they are *a lot* better than physio therapists or osteopaths and what not... doctors seem to have something against chiropractic because they hardly know what it is!

My friend suffered from terrible migranes for a looong time and was on 4 different pain killers a day and had various scans. Her doctor never recommended a chiorpractor and when she asked about them he just laughed at said they were quacks. Well I told her to go and see one anyway (I've been seeing them for years) and within 2 weeks her headaches were gone and she was off all her medication!

Headache is a pain in the head, scalp or neck. Headaches can be
caused by minor problems like eyestrain, lack of coffee or more
serious reasons like head injury, brain tumors, encephalitis and
meningitis. Taking painkillers continuously can have harmful side
effects, so it is better to modify your lifestyle. More information

If it was a cat scan then an MRI may be needed to rule out ACM (Arnold Chiari Malformation). This is when the tonsils of the cerebellum are herniated into the spine. This is very rare but a possibility. I would have her tell her doctor to get her into a neurologist.

Try applying moist heat to the tense areas, this might nelp relax the muscles and ease the headache. Perhaps your mom might try accupuncture. It always makes me feel soooo much better. It's great for tense muscles and (even though it's needles all over your body) it's quite relaxing.
Sometimes it's not a painkiller that we need.
