The sore is on his leg, I went to the pet store to get that Apple Bitter stuff to deter the pet from itching/biting. But you can not put that stuff on an open wound I woudn't think...
I don't want to wrap it because he will tear it off...

I don't want to put that thing over his head, that's just mean. We have a vet appointment on Wednesday, that's the earliest I could get in

If he absolutely won't leave it alone, you might need to consider putting one of those "lampshade" thingies around his neck until the wound heals. Check with your local animal hospital or vet and see where you can get one. When an animal has surgery, the vet will put this around his neck to keep the animal from biting open his stitches. The same logic applies here. It looks awful, and probably isn't much fun for the dog, but it will keep the wound from getting infected or constantly ripped open.

Lick Granuloma is most likely what it is, they will give a shot that will last 2 weeks, long enough for the area to heal. Hope thats what it is because its not a big deal, they just keep messing with it and it just gets worse and its a cycle. You could give a benadryl it may help with the itching. Go by weight, large dog give adult dose, small dog under 30 lbs give half twice daily until you go to the vet,

The best thing you can do for your dog is to take it to the vet and have them tell you what you can do to make him stop scratching. If you can't do that, when my own dog had an open sore on his neck caused by his scratching an area of dry skin, I constantly kept him in my sight and anytime he went to scratch, I would pop him on behind. After a couple of times, my dog pretty much got the hint that he couldn't scratch his neck unless he wanted to get popped so he stopped doing it and his sore healed up pretty quickly.

The bitter apple is not for the wound it is for the bandage. Wrap it and put the bitter apple on the bandage to prevent the dog from chewing it off.

Putting the cone on your dog is not at all mean. It keeps him from licking the sore and gives it a chance to heal. It's a dog's natural instinct to lick something to heal it. By doing so, however, they can also cause it not to heal if they're giving it constant attention. Your vet will have the best answer for your dog, however.

First, you should find out from the vet what kind of sore this is and where it came from. The best thing to use would be an e-collar.

They sell a funnel type thing to go around his head to keep him from bothering it. You can probably find one at any pet store
