samuel adams brewing has brewed some really strong beers on a very limited basis. i believe the name of one was millenium ale. many american and european brewers produce barleywine ales which are usually in the 9-12% range. "old horizontal barleywine ale" by victory brewing co. is 11%. barley wine is brewed using massive amounts of grain and strong yeast strains for fermentation. heavy hopping ensures balance.

All you can do is buy a high strength yeast, turbo or something they are called, available from specialty brew shops. Problem is the yeast will only ferment until either the sugar is all metabolised, or the alcohol concentration kills the yeast. Use one of those floaty things, it's been years since I made beer to see how much sugar you got left vs how much alcohol... best thing is buying a high strength brew I used to make 9-10% beers that were pretty tasty & definitely flipped you up. Mucking around with off the shelf beers aint gunner do it, gotta get a good malt, not corn syrup!

Most microbrews are higher.
I know anything by Rogue is high. They make about 25 different brews and all are about between 6 and 10 percent alcohol.

Firstly Guinness is only 4.2%, that's just barely better that a Lite beer in Canada. Guinness' charm is in the flavour. If you want a Good strong beer you best bet is imported European beers.
