I assume since it is isolated from a plant that the FDA doesn't regulate it. Does it readilly corss the BBB? How much of it gets decarboxylated to seratonin before getting eliminated? Is there a known reccomended dose? Thanks.

St John's wort is the name of the the herbal preparation that can increase seratonin levels in your body. There are several active ingredients in it, but it is usually standardises with hypericum.

Just go with the directions on the back of the bottle, and u should be find. It is comparable to very low dose prescription antidepressants. It takes b/w 4-6 weeks to actually have any slightess effect at all.

Let your pharmacist check for any interaction as it can interact with antidepressants and other seratonin releasing drugs, but the interactions are minor because its seratonin activity is very week.
