Check the local internet connection (try Craigslist.org) and find someone who will come to YOU. (yep.. they do that now). That way you can get a price AND watch over the work.

I totally agree with you . The parts you get from the retail ones are just plain crappy. I build my own plus anyone else that wants me to build theirs. It is so much better and has so much better warranty then the retail ones (unless you buy extended). Lifetime warranty on memory. The HD I buy have 5 years and most other things I get are 3 years. The quality is second to none. The only way a dell is going to match quality is in their upper XPS line and I can beat their prices many times by 5-6 hundred bucks. It doesn't take very long to build one either. I just built 8 the other day and it took me under 10 hours. You get such great satisfaction knowing that you built it too. Good post.

Very few shops will install it at a decent price. Best Buy, Circuit City and other stores will install it, but at a high price. Some local car audio shops might do it at a decent price, but your best bet is to learn how to do it for yourself. Maybe ask a friend for help.

Do it yourself. You can't rip yourself off :)

...otherwise just ask around. Lots of people get after market stereos installed.
