I don't think that should be limitted to only death row inmates. I think any prisoner serving 20 years or more should be given the option to fight for their country. If they live then their sentence can be cut in half. If they die then we don't have to pay to keep them in prison. It would save some of our hard working soldiers from doing so many rotations to Iraq and it would empty out our prisons for the new criminals.

No. Soldiers are highly skilled professionals who perform as a team. Death row inmates are sociopaths who think nothing of others. Trust in your teammate's abilities is foremost and putting inmates, who don't want to be there in the first place, with real soldiers would destroy this trust. I don't have a problem with putting death row inmates out clearing mine fields though. You know, whoever makes it across in one piece can go home.

No. This is called cruel and unusual punishment. Besides, if you give a deathrow inmate the chance to run, they won't be standing around for any war.

that would create a very disciplined army with high morale wouldn't it, just like during VietNam when you went to court you had a choice of going to the nam, really helped

I don't think you should put them anywhere with a gun in their hands they just might shoot their fellow soldiers they have nothing to to lose. Not a very good idea.
