It really depends on the puppy. Some runts are just a little smaller than their littermates while others will have health problems throughout their life. The best thing if you want to buy a puppy that's a runt is buy it with a clause giving you 72 hours to take it to a vet of your choice for a check-up. If the vet ok's it, you keep it, if the vet finds a problem, you return it for a full refund.

I love the runts. They grow just as big as the others, it just takes more time. Now since I have Saints, I usually keep the runt. Most people buying a Saint are looking for a large dog. They steer clear of the runt. I just love them.

pugs are great dogs!! Being the runt just means the smallest of the litter. If you were purchasing the animal for seriuos breeding purpases then maybe there is something to that but any other reason just love love love

Well, the "runts" usualy are the least fed because all the puppies wil compete for their mother's milk. This could be good or bad, or both. The dog could have gained the most persanality, and if you feed it alot, then it will bond with you permanatly. It culd also be very skiddish. But if it is healthy, go for it, runts just take a couple extra months/years to mature.

it really doesn't matter. it just means that they are a little smaller. the smaller the cuter right? i think that runts are much cuter and nicer than normal dogs. it might just be that my dog is a runt. pugs are a great choice!

It is not bad but keep in mind that runts are generally going to be smaller than the average dog from that litter and may be prone to more health problems.

no,the "runt" is only smaller than the others because he's younger.dogs are fertile for several days,a breeder repeatedly has a female dog "mated" by a male during her fertile times to insure pregnancy.because of the unique physiology of dogs, she can have some pups who are from the first mating, and some from the last.the first embryos will have had a bit more time to develop b4 birth.

If the breeder doesn't breed "teacup" dogs, if she is a responsible breeder who just happens to get a smaller one in a litter, then yes, its fine to buy the dog. There is a possibility of some health problems (which the breeder should be upfront about) because of their smaller build, however if the parents are healthy then the pup should be too. Its when people deliberately breed tiny dogs to make an extra buck without care to the dogs lineage or parents quality, that you get the really horrid mental and physical problems.
