Man is his soul and not the mind or his body? Does Scientology talk of Consciousness as synonym of soul?

Man's body with separate existence and the feeling of separateness from the whole is the cause of our 'igo' and there starts our ignorance. The ignorance continues till the real identity is felt and understood which is called self-realization in Hinduism. The Consciousness is the apparatus by which self-realization is attained. Whether Scientology also accepts this concept of consciousness is not known. The consciousness is the soul in action, so far as Hinduism is concerned.

The soul or "thetan" (as it is referred to in Scientology) is the awareness of awareness unit which has all potentialities but no mass, no wave-length and no location. It is the source of life itself. It isn't a thing, but a creator of things. The personality and beingness which actually is the individual and is aware of being aware and is ordinarily and normally the "person" and who the individual thinks he is. The thetan is immortal and is possessed of capabilities well in excess of those hitherto predicted by man. It is the energy-space production unit. It is the person himself -- not his body or his name, the physical universe, his mind, or anything else; the identity which is the individual. The thetan is most familiar to one and all as you.
