Breathe out more than you're breathing in! Hiccups come from too much carbon dioxide in our system (or something to that effect), unbalanced oxygen and carbon dioxide. You could also try peanut butter in a spoon on the roof of your mouth (or without the spoon), I've tried it twice before--it worked once out of the two times.

How long do hiccups last?

Okay, this one always seems to work. Take a glas of water, put a spoon in it. Hold the end of the spoon next to your nose and drink the water. Sounds bizarro, I know, but I actually think it's the focusing on the spoon that works. My husband tells this to everyone he comes across that has hiccups. I drink water but without the spoon and just focus super hard on a spot on the wall. Works like a charm!!!

I think this works because it takes the focus off the hiccups. If someone has the hiccups ask them if they have the hiccups. When they say yes, ask them if they have a middle name. When they say yes, ask them what their middle name is. After they tell you, say to them 'your hiccups are gone (middle name)' It works on about 90% of the kids at the school i work at.

There has been some research done on this. The most effective methods are those which stimulate the vagus nerve, gagging, pulling on the tongue and pressing on the eyeballs. The most effective method of all was found to be digital rectal massage. If you are wondering that means sticking a finger up your anus. Slightly less effective but much more pleasant is having an orgasm.

I like to hold my breath (with my fingers pinching my nose) until the next hiccup comes and goes. Works for me.

put pressure on your eyeballs with your fingers for 30 seconds or so until you no longer feel the urge to hiccup- this really works!

I stand on my head but that doesnt work for people with bad ballence. Or hold your breath for aslong as you can or drink 1/2 gallon of water

i hold my breath as long as i can then let in out slowly- it usually stops the diaphragm from spasming. But if it is hiccups from acid reflux= drink milk
