I have lived here (in SF) since I got out of the Navy in 1991. Most locals love the military. Where does the percieved hatred come from? This used to be a big military town. Its pathetic.

I lived in The City between '59 and '95 and the place was beyond totally transformed during that time.

The anti-military perception comes from those self-appointed morons that claim to speak for "the people" and that elected band of idjuts collectively known as The Board of Stupervisors. You know the one, right? The one with its own foreign policy, its own nuclear policy, its own ....(fill in the blanks) policy. And let's not forget Nancy Pelosi marching in parades with NAMBLA members in attendance.

When those are the images of The City projected around the nation and the world is it surprising that the kind of reaction you're describing is taking place?

Hey there. Thank you for your service first of all. Second, I am not a liberal but have lived in SF since 1980. I for one salute the military for their sacrifices. Again, thank you.

BTW...anyone wanting to move here, I will have a home on the market by Spring. I'm getting away from these loonies!

Fast Eddie, boy have YOU got it right only I call them Major nuisance and the board of stupidvisors. I wish they would spend more time (AND our excessively high taxes) fixing problems we have here (potholes, the homeless using the streets for a toilet, etc) instead of trying to make "statements", I.E., lets marry gay people!

the perceived hatred of the military comes from the city leaders who portray the city as a bunch of liberals who hate the military. also because we had the largest anti-war protest in the country and we continue to have the protests

It's not the people, it's the leaders who project the city's image to the rest of the world...

2 big forces . . .
1) major business who do NOT want to be in the bulls eye when one of the loony nations decides to target US military installations
2) lots of college people who think some wars are unavoidable (WWII) and some are the result of very poor judgment (Vietnam) and figure they should try Plan B more .

I don't know. Maybe the gays there don't like it when the military labels them as having a mental disorder or whatever it was.
