Over the past 8 months I've lost about 50 pounds. First I was only dieting. For the past 5 months I have been running. And for the past two months I have been lifting.

I have been keeping my weight steady to slightly increasing, adding a little muscle. Which I am happy with. My problem is that even though I lift my legs (squats, extensions, curl, lunges) my legs are getting thinner. I am at about 10% body fat which seems to all be in my stomach, my butt has all but disappeared. I want to drop to 6-7%. Can someone suggest a cardio activity which won't make my legs skinny? I do not have access to a pool.

Thanks!

If you use a Heart Rate Monitor (HRM) you'll note that lifting weights will indeed provide a nice cardio workout. I'm betting that if you start doing military lifts, squats, etc that you'll be surprised how much cardio you get.

Don't be afraid of the weights. Go into the lifting room and ask for help to get started. Lifters are the most laid-back guys I've ever met, unless you forget to wipe down a bench or don't offer to spot for them.

Finally, the ultimate leg workout is spinning / bicycling. Enroll in a good spin class, and you'll see your HRM pegged and your legs whimpering for mercy.

I'm not that sure but i think jump roping wouldnt be too hard on your legs, especially if you do complex moves with your arms when twirling the rope. Good luck!
