I've had short hair mostly all my life because I would always cut it, but now I've decided to let it grow out long, does anyone know a good way to manage it and keep it tamed so that it's not so unappealing?

use shampoo and conditioner. the conditioner really helps! and get the ends trimed every once and a while.

I did exactly that.

Five years ago, I had pixie short hair. Five years later, it reached halfway down my butt. (I'm 5 ft tall.) When it was in that in-between stage, I used head bands to secure the hair back. Sometimes I used barettes, or pretty bobby pins. Once it was long enough to pull back, pony tails were how I tamed the tresses.

If you want to look more stylish than this, try curling your hair. Getting a style cut helps a lot too. If you want to keep bangs/fringe in the front, that's also a big help. (I didn't, but then again I'm not much of a fashionista.)

Let me say this: It's a MYTH that trimming the hair makes it grow faster. Lies lies lies. I should know, I fell for it. Hair grows 1/2 inch a month, and trimming doesn't speed up the process at all. It does, however, keep the hair healthy, because it's the only way of getting rid of split ends.

Mostly everyone is right, esp. about the conditioner. Another thing, dont brush it every 5 minutes. It is tempting because long hair can get tangles easily. Brushing it all the time causes it to break and it just looks bad. Once or twice a day should be fine. Try running your fingers through it instead. I have hair to the top of my butt and I get compliments from hair stylists all the time. Anyway, good luck.

I have been taking hair supplements for the past 3 years and here is what I have found.
ProCaps labs makes a great supplement called "Hair Skin and Nails" formula, here is the link for that
http://www.procapslabs.com/pcl/pages/pro...
This is in capsule form and easy to swallow. This company, ProCaps labs is also extremely reputable and carries pure and effective products.
I took GNC's Nourishair for four months, and supplemented it with extra Biotin tablets daily due to its low Biotin content. I took 2500 micrograms extra Biotin with the GNC pills.
The Procaps hair vites have 2500 micrograms of Biotin in them, and don't really require extra Biotin be taken, but I do take an additional 2500 micrograms of Biotin for a daily total of 5000 micrograms of Biotin.
My hair is growing in thick and dark and quite quickly. My hair used to be very slow growing, but all of these supplements have really made a difference.
The only way to really change the health of your hair is by taking supplements that work internally on the follicle where hair is made, any shampoos or oils or other topically applied things do nothing to change hair's structure, that can only happen with systemically provided support, which means supplements that you take internally.. Keep in mind, regardless of how many or how much you take of any supplement, hair is never going to grow at a "Jack and the beanstalk" type of rate, the most you can hope for is to improve the strength and health of each hair follicle and to see an incremental increase in the rate of its growth

Growing out hair is no walk in the park! Just go to your stylist every 3-4 weeks and have them help you. How short is your hair? Good luck :).
