Does anyone know if it is possible to obtain my nursing degree by doing some online courses. I want to work my way up to eventually becoming an anesthesiologist. Does anyone know I can go about doing this. Also if there are any anesthesiologists that have gone a different route in getting their degree in medicine for anesthesiology then please share you information.

I wouldn't mind going in to a campus for the hands on work but I have a young baby at home that I take care of during the day. And daycare is NOT an option. I am not trying to take the easy way out so before you assume something why don't you ask. it was simply a question. I did not need your rude comment. again I say

Thank you to the gentleman who gave me a good answer. I have always wanted to do something in the medicince field but got a bit sidetracked when I got pregnant with my son. I would like to be an anesthesiologist but do understand the risks for malpractice suits and so on. If anyone else has any other options for careers in the medical field I am completely open to idea's and want to make sure that this is something that I want to do before I go and start this long process. So any help is welcomed. Thanks

To really be a good medical professional, you should try to keep with hands on schooling. One option, if you are actually interested in anesthesiology, is to become a CRNA. If you didn't know, you would first obtain your R.N. then go to school for about 3 more years and you can practice anesthesiology and you make very good money- most get about 150-200,000. Also, you can get a Biology degree then go to school to be an Anesthesiology Assistant- that takes about 27 months on top of the B.S. and the degree is very similar to a CRNA, as well as the salary. This is a much faster route than first becoming an M.D., you would have less money invested in your education, and you would make a very competitive salary.

Probably dont waste your life away trying to become a doctor. Although its a noble cause, med isnt what it used to be and youll come out with 100,000's of dollars in debt and have to enter a grueling residency (if you even get in 1st try!)...esp for Anestheisia. I dont know your age but the path your talking about would be Nursing yrs + 4 yrs med school + 4-5yrs residency. So youre talking about an easy 10 - 12yrs before you start to be an anesthe doc. And the malprac for anesthe is one of the highest, plus the on-call hrs youll need to put in. Just not fun.

Not trying to be discouraging, just realistic.

Goodluck

You might be able to take certain classes on the internet, but you still need to have lab time and patient contact. How would you learn to start an IV or put in a foley cath? Good golly, I hope they never give people registered nursing degrees over the net!!!
