Your Thyroid is Part of Your Endocrine system it controls and regulate many of your body's functions through hormones. Body Temp

Although there maybe truth to the first answer, and As someone that has dealt with it all my life, see an endocrineologist they will run the proper tests.

In the first place why can't your doctor check your thyroid for you, that's his job. He has to take a "blood platform" test to see of you getting all the necessary hormones to the thyroid. I don't see as this would have anything to do with you being cold, but, if that's his opinion he should check it. Maybe you'd better think about another opinion.
The thyroid is a gland that control many of your aspects, you can have a "Hypothyroid" or a "Hyperthyroid" one just the opposite of the other. One you can be sleepy, inactive, lazy, the other hyperactive. You need Iodine to control the thyroid, this come from Iodized sat you eat. From the sea. The thyroid is part of the endocrine system.
Some people that have had thyroid surgery have to take liquid Iodine for life.

Makes thyroxine which regulates metabolism. It needs iodine to make thyroxine so maybe you aren't getting enough iodine in your diet. Some good sources of iodine are salt and seaweed
