I will be going out of the country for three months. Any ideas?

I will be going out of the country for 3+ months, and would prefer to put everything in storage while I'm gone (I'm not keeping my apartment, either). I don't have a whole lot of money, and don't think I can take them with me- that would probably be more traumatic for them! Do you think there's any chance I'll still be able to go?

Contact your local humane society. A lot of them will board your animals for a fee. Or you can see if any of your friends or family would be willing to pet-sit for a while.

We use a pet sitter when we travel. We found her advertisement on Craigslist.org and we have been very happy with her attentiveness and professionalism. She is also willing to get the mail and maintain the house while we are away. I have thought about boarding our cat but I think that he would be unhappier if we uprooted him and sent him to a kennel (he is from an animal shelter and I don't want him to fear that he is being sent back to Jail!) -- than if we left him home alone with a sitter that comes by once or twice each day that we are gone.

Have someone you trust come in to be with them or hire a drop in pet service. Putting them in a kennel will only depress them. At least if they are in the home they are used to while you are gone, they will get somewhat depressed, but not like they will if you take you and their home away from them at the same time. Also, don't do your laundry before you go--leave articles of your unwashed laundry around where they normally sleep so they can smell you to reassure them you are coming back. If you are going to be gone for a REALLY extended period of time, you may want to consider adopting them out for the sake of their mental health....

you can put them in a kennel but i dont really advise it
the kennels are not always clean and they may have
animals with diseases that could be catchy. why dont
you have a friend look on them twice a day, once in the
morning and once in the evening, to make sure they
have food and plenty of fresh water. if you do decide to
put them in a kennel please take a look personally and
see the conditions of the place and talk to the owners
and check for good ventilation for the simple reason
cats get colds and upper respitory diseases not only
from other cats but poor ventilation of a room. good luck

Some vets will board them for a fee, there are kennels that do a great job, or you can trust a friend to take care of them in your home. Have a nice trip

I would first see if family or friends can watch your cats. If not, then see if you can find a reliable animal hotel.
