No dont open your windows. All that will do is let more smoke in.

Tune into the ABC radio, 774 on the AM dial. They have updates all day in regards to the fires. They have also discussed the smoke surrounding Victoria.

The government want people to stay indoors where possible. To not do any outdoor exercise. Asthmatics, the very young and the elderly are on high alert because of todays conditions.

One lady on the radio suggested making up a spray bottle of vinegar and water, and misting it around the house if the house is smoky. I haven't tried this myself, but she said it works to get rid of the smoke.

End result... dont open your windows, you're just inviting more smoke inside.

Keeping windows closed filters out most of the particulates, but not the gaseous parts of smoke. The particulates cause most of the smell and health problems. Some people are bothered by the particulates and some aren't so, open the windows if a smokey breeze doesn't bother you; close the windows if it does.

Long-term heath risks of smoke are almost non-existent for people that don't have existing respiratory problems. In the US, the Forest Service has monitored the effects of smoke on firefighters and they did not find any lasting health effects. So if firefighters aren't affected by 5-6 months of smoke per year, then the average person is not likely to be harmed by a couple weeks of smokey air.

Forest fire smoke is the reason we got air conditioning in our home. Ever few years the air is very unhealthy due to the smoke from huge fires here in Montana, USA. Do you have an air pollution number to call and find out how bad it is there? It's probably hot and smokey. Which is worse, the heat in your home or the smoke? I hope the fires are out soon.

sure that can work, if not the best way to go is to call a profesional cleaning company...kinda pricy but you'll never have to worry about it again.
