Many times when a partner forces the issue, it is because the person is getting stupid and embarrassing BUT does not think they drink much or it's a big deal.
What exactly does your partner say ?
If they think you are embarrassing when tipsy, then you need a wake up call.
If they are just totally opposed to alcohol but they say you have not bad behaviors, then you need to decide if you really want to live life in the total abstinence world or not. Even if you love someone, living the totally straight life can be a hardship mentally.
It would really depend on if there was a behavior problem or not. If there is, then alcoholics only choice is total abstinence because even 1 drink and they are doing a Mel Gibson.

my b/f stopped drinking the minute I told him I was pregnant. He wasn't an alchoholic but he would stop by the bee's at least twice a week to have some beer. I think that is awesome.. I didn't ask him to.. he just made the decision on his own...
I would definately choose my man over any kind of drink..

I wouldn't choose either. Alcohol is not a choice between people. Because ultimatums suck - I wouldn't choose the significant other either. Anyone who tries to tell you who to be and how to behave (when you are an adult) is not someone I want to be with...not if they are giving an ultimatum. Drinking, like boyfriends, is my choice, not someone elses.

I would choose alcohol, you can always find someone else if you are drinking. By giving up alcohol you give up a very interesting variable in you life, by giving up alcohol you give up those cherished mornings where you wake up and don't know where you are.

What does this question make any scope on reality unless you are an alcoholic, or the partner is. I assume this is not the case as you have stated it in your queston.
Now i am bored with the question goodbye

My ex recently gave up drinking, just for me. I didn't even ask or anything, he just..did it, then told me a couple months later. I think it was a great thing to do and I'm really, really proud. But we're no longer together, but hopefully, he's done the right thing and carried on with refusing alchohol.

if someone gives an ultimatum, you take neither and find a new bf/gf.
no one has the right to make another choose something, and to say "do this or I'm gone or do this cause you love me" is flat wrong, morally wrong, etc.
shows a great deal of a lack of self esteem and other issues.

If you choose alcohol you'll be sad the rest of your life. Love is something that doesn't just happen everyday. and if you choose alcohol like Ms. Hardcore says you'll probably regret it for the rest of your life but that's just up to you.

Alcohol won't leave you for someone more attractive.
Alcohol won't sleep with your best friend behind your back.
Alcohol's parents aren't going to judge you.
Alcohol won't leave cookie crumbs on the bed sheets.
Bf/gf won't be "in the mood," but with alcohol you can get drunk and have sex with the nearest person/animal/object in an instant!
I choose mah alchie! *hic*
