Since you are asking this question, I assume you are having problems or concerns about gaining weight. The great majority of people gain weight when they eat more than usual. Therefore, I would ask if you feel ill or have a poor appetite. Many illnesses cause you to lose weight. If you are eating a lot but still losing weight, you should have a doctor check your blood sugar since that could mean type 1 diabetes. That causes extreme weight loss no matter how much you eat. The other symptoms are being thirsty all the time and peeing a lot.

well duh eat more, hehe
Specifically, I understand protein is very important. Lots of lean meats... chicken breast and fish mainly. If you're vegetarian, tofu is a good source, as are various beans and peas and lentils. Nuts are a good source, too.
Depending on how much weight gain you want, you'll have to increase your total calorie intake by 10-50% (I forget where I read that, sorry about that). Normally for a teenage female, you need about 2000 calories/day... so that will have to increase to, on average, 2500 calories. I know counting calories is a b*(#ch, but it helps out in the end.
Oh yeah, and don't forget. Weight training is the best way to build useful (i.e., muscle and bone) weight. It's not going to make you all bulky (like a lot of girls fear) if you stay light with what weight you use. Just train with some resistance, that is the point.
And for balanced exercise, do something aerobic (say jogging 30 minutes 3 times a week).
