Once one of my teachers in high school said that it was good for one to have a cold at least once a year. He also said that one should worry if you don't get colds.
Is that true? If it's true, why?

My question is: "Is this true or not?"

I don't think it's true that we should get a cold every year. A lot of people don't get a cold for many years because their immune system is excellent. A cold could easily lead to other diseases like bronchitis, flu. The only reason I can think of that "it's good to have a cold once a year" could be because the body flushes out of lot of mucus during a cold. However having a lot of mucus in our body is not a good sign because mucus is a result of inflammation within. We can avoid having mucus built up if we stay away from food that's inflammatory including sugar, dairy products, red meat. Anti-inflammatory food include raw oat, apple, bean.

With good oral hygiene, good general hygiene, a healthy diet, and a positive attitude, there is no reason to ever get a cold. Regular handwashing is essential. I am 60 years old and can't even remember the last time I had a cold. It has been a great number of years. Regular exercise is a benefit as well. Think of being well, not of illness. Just tell yourself you don't have time to get sick and that helps convince your subconscious mind that you want to stay well. Keeping your hands away from your eyes and face helps, too.

You do not need to get sick to feel normal. Actually you should feel very blessed to not get sick. That means that somewhere along the line when you were small, you probably got hit with every germ there was and now you are just not getting sick. Also, you are probably doing a very good job with taking care of youself. Keep up the good work!! Continue to get rest and enjoy your healthy life!!!

It just means that you have taken good care of yourself. I bet you wash your hands often. I don't get a cold every year and quite frankly I am glad.
