My cat is 17 years old. For a few months now, she's been crying at night...like a really loud, deep cry. She's starting to do it all the time now. I'm not really sure why she does that...we thought maybe because she is afraid of the dark, or misses my sister who is away at school, but that doesn't make sense anymore because she did it during the day while my sister was like 2 feet from her.

Does anyone know why she cries like that? How can I make it stop?

Get her to the vet ASAP. She's getting old and is probably experiencing new dillemas associated with getting old. She's scared. More importantly, she's probably very ill.

I do hope your elderly cat has regular vet exams and care if she needs it.

My Cameo, who was almost 23 when her time came to go, would cry sometimes at night. It scared me that she might be in pain. She finally became completely deaf. Maybe the crying resonates in their body some way and comforts them.

I really don't think there is anything wrong or anything you can do about it (or at least I gave up on trying). I have heard other people say that this happens with their aging cat. Cameo could see perfectly well in the dark, and went to her litterbox and water bowl during the night in my bedroom, returning to the place she liked to sleep in the closet without any problems.

Your cat is more than likely in pain. My cat Gracie did this for about 6 months before I let the Vet put her to sleep. It broke my heart but It would have been cruel for me to make her suffer any longer. Gracie was 16&1/2 years old and my sweet baby girl!

My cat is about 17 and doing the same thing now. She's old and lonely. She also suffers from painful arthritis in the back of her legs (she's on medication now). You should take your cat to the vet for a check-up.

Shes 17 and may have serious health issues that may not be evident. Take her to the vet to make sure that everything loOKs ok.

the cat maybe doesn't feel right about something going on in your house. have you got something new like furniture or another pet? she might not feel comfortable around these things. other than that she might be in pain, like she has something stuff n her paw or maybe even something internal. if you can't figure it out, you might want to see a pet physocologist or a vet.

she might hear a cat outside or next door and is calling to it.

if she is also purring when she cries, she has a good chance of being in serious pain. cats purr when happy and when in deep pain. (like cancer)

I think that she feels she is going to die. She couldn't be afraid of dark. She might be sick so bring her to vet or there might be some animal or something in the house that she is afraid of.

maybe she's in pain, you should take her to a vet, it could be arthritis or when our cat started to cry all the time, it turned out to be bladder stones
