generally, killing of people in times of war seems to not be considered murder in the bible.

He's God! And has not the potter the power over the clay?
Durning Old Testament times, they challenged God, they questioned his existence. Like Pharaoh, who said to Moses... Who is this God that I should obey his voice and let Israel go? I will not let them go! Pharaoh's deadly mistake!
Jericho was a very wicked city, who was deep into paganism, and perverted lifestyle, even down to bestiality! The citizens of Jericho, was infected with number of Disease.
But, the city was also a symbol of the pride of the people. The city was as wide as it was tall. The top of the walls so thick they raced chariots around the top of it.
Durning Old Testament times, and even today, war was used to Judge and Punish the wicked.
Even Israel, when they were in fellowship with God, they lived in peace. However, when they would turn from him, they suffer for their wickedness, at the hands of neighboring countires. This was done through wars!
The Bible tells us that in "Righteousness" he doeth Judge and make War.
In Psalm 9:16-17 we read; The LORD is known by the judgment which he executeth: the wicked is snared in the work of his own hands. Higgaion. Selah.
The wicked shall be turned into hell, and all the nations that forget God.

First of all the 10 commandments were made for man and served as the covenant between Him and His people. If you follow this commandments, regardless of which nationality or race you will become one of His people. Of course, first is to accept the Messiah as our sacrifice for our sins. Then live according to the Law. Now back to your question, you cannot question Him and His Authority. Remember that THE PUNISHMENT FOR SIN IS DEATH . Now when He commanded them to kill those people, this also serve as a test for them if they will follow Him, anyway He can kill them all by Himself by sending famine, pestilence, plagues etc., now why He want all these people killed? Because of their sins, they worship idols and perhaps, all sort of evil things that needs punishment. Now instead of sending natural disasters or any form of plague, He chooses to send His chosen people to do what he wanted. This is to show that The Almighty is with them and they will always be victorious. Now there were also times that Israel turn its back from The Almighty and same thing happened to Israel, they were defeated, most of them killed and exile from their homeland as His punishment. But after a long period of suffering, they turn back to Him and they were forgiven, thus the prophecy in the Bible was fulfilled. Anyway, upon the Messiah's second coming, everything will be settled. He will be the judge of everything or of every individual, so don't worry.

There are so many things wrong with this question. First God is not subject to the law. Second God does not murder anyone and if God chose to righteously require anyones life it would be righteous as he himself gave the life. Now as far a scripture goes one must study with understanding what is going on. Many things htat happened prior to Christ which is God with us gives testimony to these things which are to come. Understand this basic Gospel truth and then seek understanding. God created man knowing that man had a sinful nature and that God himself is righteous and can not be joined with sin. And the reason man was created this way was so man could have a free will and worship God wiht a free will. Now being man was imperfect man himself aquired a death sentence (God knew he would) God loved his creation inspite of his sinful nature...so much that a righteous God chose to pay the penalty of death for him. Now we live under the grace provided by God through the atonement of Jesus Christ. All who accept this atonement have the oportunity to live with God for eternity.

God keeps His promises regarding Israel and the land promised to them.
I don't see God commanding Jews to kill right now. Jews will defend their land though. Do you think Iran Presidents words that Israel is going to become nonexistant is going to happen. Think again. The LORD God of the bible keeps His promises. The old testament times for Israel to take the promised land was for a specific time & purpose. Israel is suppose to be from the Egyptian River unto the Euphraties River.
There is conscequences to all nations who try or persuade Israel to divide their land.

You seem confused. You need to believe in something if you are going to criticize religion. I am not sure what you believe, but you certainly question a lot. And that's okay. But if you believe in the 10 Commandments (and therefore the Old Testament), you should probably believe that the Commandments were intended for Man and not God. God is supposedly beyond reproach because He has the Ultimate Plan.

Who does he kill (executions are not murder, killing in war are not murder). People who have brought his wrath on the people of God, and people who are in extreme opposition to the way God wants them to live. There lifestyle has perverted everyone in their community, and thus would bring a curse on the people of God if they survived. All of their possession were cursed, and thus had to be killed, destroyed or given to God. Murder is premeditated, without legal cause, and committed not in a time of war against the enemy. usually done for personal gain.
killing, as an execution for a crime is a good thing as is killing your enemy in war. neither is against the commandment to not murder.
