I tend to think that when we have these religious clashes, religion really is not even a part of it.
For example, Sunnis vs. Shi'ites. . .they're fighting over power in Iraq, not God.
Also, Northern Ireland troubles. . .they're fighting for politics and control of gov't. . .not God.
Muslims and Jews in the middle east. . .it's a border-dispute, not a theological one.
I understand your question too, about same religion / different faith struggles. . .who knows?

Well that's a question I'm not prepared to answer perfectly because I don't have time for proper research right now and can't give exact examples off the top of my head. However I know you can't even get out of Genesis before the Jews attack and kill a group different than themselves because I believe they were trying to marry into the Jews or something of that sort. The Jews tricked them by saying they all had to be circumcised, which as an adult you can imagine is quite painful. While the men are disabled they attack and kill them all. From there it only gets worse all through the Bible and the examples in the Koran are easy enough to find. With that kind of violence bred into the very fabric of the individual faiths as a whole, how could there not be violence between different sects within the faiths,it's part and parcel of who and what they are.

Groups of religions are like any other groups. Some groups don't like each other, and some groups try to kill each other. The religious turn to scriptures in the same way that countries turn to laws, ethnicities point to historical reasons, and individuals just plain point fingers. The reasons may or may not make sense, but they really are secondary. They are angry with each other and know of no better way to resolve their differences. Most of them haven't even tried another way.
Relgious groups are just special because if they followed their own beliefs, they might find a way out of their troubles that doesn't involve killing people.

there is no place where the New Testament condones violence against others, particularly those who declare themselves to be fellow-believers!! (some will say that self-defense is justified - that is debatable - but that is another issue)
why? why do people twist scripture or deny the very scripture that they purport to love and honor?
i guess the simple answer is the "deceitfulness of sin".
god bless!!

as far as i am aware it says not to have sects in religion ... so even divides like this is so far from what should be happening within the faith
