I have recently purchased a PC from a computer fare. I unwittingly took the bloke's word for it that Windows XP was genuine, but when I try to update, Microsoft tell me it isn't. I've had a look in a few PC shops, and have seen XP Professional for £271 and XP home upgrade for £60. If I buy the Home edition, will it work? How would I upgrade from XP to XP? Or would I be better off buying the Professional version?
Please help!!!

WOA. Nice prices. Is that GBP?
First of all. You can't *upgrade* an illegal version of XP
to a legal version of XP. If yours isn't cosher you'll have
to buy a full one. An upgrade is only legal when you have
and keep the version you upgraded from. Since you don't
have that. You won't have a legal copy. Besides that. You
can't upgrade from XP to XP. There some difference between home and pro. Most are network related. If you're an average
user you don't have to invest into pro. The prices however
appear to be moon prices if that's in GBP. Pro sells for
around 116€ as full version. I've seen the full version
of Home for less than 80. Make sure you look for a
consumer version.

Plus the reason they make a second Verizon of a product is by way of the undeniable fact that is more advantageous suited then the a million st verizon. So previously you commence affirming window xp is more advantageous suited then vista this is of route not because with window xp barley has any purposes can it help blue tooth? Can window xp be connect to xbox 360 or ps3? vista can yet plus those those who're affirming xp both cant discover the money for vista or has a older pc.... and also they made a more advantageous recent verison of vista a lot less glichts.

There are many flavors of operating systems you can purchase. I would suggest Windows XP Professional just because of the extra networking features that are available with it. Home edition has a tendeancy to crash more often. There is also a newer operating system from Microsoft called Windows Vista but it is very new and may take time to work the bugs out. Also you need to know if your processor is a 32-bit or 64-bit processor. More than likely if you purchased it at a fair, then it is 32-bit because 64-bit processors are much newer.

I agree with Brian P. there.......double check it out before you are out the money.... however the other gentleman was right... Vista is coming soon....Just wait...... or you can update from a 98SE format (fat32) to a XP Home enviroment (NTFS) by doing the upgrade using the 98se as the upgrade from.....yes, reformat hard drive partiion making it large and all usuable...then maybe buy the home upgrade and AFTER 98se is installed then plop the XP home in cd drive and follow prompting....XP Home and Pro seem to merge when you go SP2 so what's the diff besides more money out of your pocket?

Go to www.emule.co.uk download windows xp for free from there and after you put it on disc then put it on machine. Make sure you download one with a serial code though. I downloaded microsoft vista from there the other day and it is excellent.

the home edition is fine unless you want to fine tune your security settings or have specific networking needs.
You should buy the full version though as an upgrade may require media from previous windows versions.

Home ed. is fine for everyday use. Vista is coming on line, you may want to look at that. A note here: If you don't get the Windows package with serial numbers, it is bootleg. I guess you know that now. It happens to us all now and again.

have an oem version of windows xp pro which under £100.
The upgrade versions will not work as you have to have a valid original installation from which to upgrade.

To download Emule for free you can click here http://bitly.com/1qdaZ5W
eMule is probably the best free open source P2P client used for downloading movies, music and many other media file types.
It's the best choice.
